GET TO KNOW THE HELLENIC INSTITUTE OF CONSTRUCTIVE JOURNALISM

The Hellenic Institute of Constructive Journalism (H.I.CO.JO.) is a non-profit organization aiming to introduce and propagate the emerging journalism domain known as «Constructive Journalism» to both professionals and non-professionals in Greece and abroad.

Journalism that paves the way for a better future
«If your aim is to change the world, journalism is a more immediate short-term weapon.»

-Sir Tom Stoppard, Playwright

It is indubitable that the influence of media on our world is strong. HICOJO considers the excessive negativity present in today’s news as detrimental to our society. Therefore, we are pursuing to expose the “bigger picture” of every news story and increase the social awareness of news media. In HICOJO we redefine the concept of “news” and bring forth a kind of journalism that investigates impartially and proposes solutions and creative actions, without the presence of negativity and prejudice. Our aim is to provide “sober information” and encourage action, as a counterweight to the passive consumption of negative news, one of the biggest hindrances of critical thinking.

Reasoned, genuinely constructive, journalism is now more useful than ever and could very well be the cornerstone of a healthy society.

Now is the time for the media to responsibly provide adequate, well-researched information without scaremongering, misinforming, exaggerating (or ignoring) the imminent danger and without spreading collective guilt by "adding fuel to the fire", while the emotional and psychological state of many of our fellow citizens is tested in an unprecedented way.
