  1. Introduction to constructive journalism
    Concepts and principles.
  2. Contributions – role – ethics – impact
    Origins of constructive journalism, similarities/differences with other forms of journalism, role of the journalist, ethics, ethnocentrism, Eurocentrism, impact of constructive journalism on the public.
  3. Information and negativity
    Journalism in crisis, characteristics of traditional journalism today, competition, digitization, news cycle, negative framing, the psychology of information, perception versus reality, consequences for individuals and society, the needs and desires of the public from the news.
  4. Producing constructive stories
    Narrative, production preparation, storyboard, application of constructive principles, constructive editing, use of music, narration, post-production.
  5. Constructive Information / Constructive Reporting
    Topics suitable for a constructive approach, creative thinking, constructive coverage of a story, working with data, desk and field research, constructive interviewing.
  6. Publishing constructive stories
    Searching for publishers, who to approach, presenting a constructive story, “selling” constructive stories to publishers, arguments in favor of a constructive approach, impact of constructive journalism on the public and revenue.

  1. Key elements of a constructive approach
    Introduction to constructive journalism, change of mindset and focus, complementary addition to investigative and breaking news, the pillars of constructive journalism, the elements of a solutions story, the goals of constructive journalism, what constructive journalism is and what it is not.

  2. Promoting dialogue and participation
    The media as coordinators/mediators, forms of dialogue, dealing with divisive issues, promoting dialogue with civil society, cooperation with civil society, audience engagement, engagement on social media.

  3. Promoting your media outlet
    Editors/managers and promoting constructive journalism, coverage priorities, implementing constructive journalism in the newsroom, impact studies, collaborative projects, measurements and analyses.

  4. News and negativity
    Journalism in crisis, the current situation, competition, digitization, the 24-hour news cycle, negative framing, how our brains process news, perception versus reality, the consequences for individuals and society, the needs and desires of the public for information.
